It used to be that neighborhood Thai restaurants focused on sweet-edged curries and crowd-pleasing piles of pad Thai, similar to the standard chop suey and chow mein of early Chinatown restaurants. Nowadays you can find much more interesting Thai food in all kinds of unassuming neighborhood restaurants, such as Amphawa Thai Noodle House.

I love Amphawa! Johnny and I get take-out from there at least once a week (which we eat while watching Jersey Shore. It’s awful. Don’t judge me). The food is always full of flavor, heat and spice. So after Sakura’s post the other day, I knew where to go for my Thai noodle fix.

My favorite dish was Tom Luad Moo, pork entrails, blood, and housemade peppery meatballs, in a clear broth. It had intestines, spleen, cubes of pork blood along with lettuce, cilantro and a bit of scallion. The broth was perfect, not too salty, really garlicky, and picked up a bit of the entrail flavor.
